Tourism in Normandy at the Pavillon de Gouffern

The Pavillon de Gouffern is a charming hotel, located near Argentan in the Orne region. Formerly a hunting estate during the 18th century, it stands in the middle of a clearing. It offers authentic, high-class tourism in the heart of Normandy. The hotel’s park, in the middle of the Gouffern forest, has a surface area of 200 acres: two ornamental lakes and an underground river which crosses the Domain lend a particular charm to this hotel of character, in the heartland of the Normandy stud-farm region.

The climate of Normandy is favourable for tourism and discovery: an exceptional range of beech, maple, walnut, chestnut as well as wild cherry, spruce or tulip trees grow in the park of the hotel. Take a stroll through the park, breathe in the smell of Nature and discover the forest of Goffern. You can also try discovering the forest by mountain bike, lent to you by the hotel and reserved for adults and children accompanied by an adult.

700 meters from the hotel there is a large fresh-water pond stocked with trout, perch, carp, pike, tench or roach : quiet tourism beneath century-old beech-trees for the initiate (bring your fishing gear)

Relaxing tourism at the Pavillon de Gouffern by the hotel’s swimming pool : heated to a temperature of 28°, to make you forget you are in Normandy, it is located in the former vegetable garden of the hotel. You can have something light to eat at the tables nearby - the Gouffern dish at the Vegetable Grill, with a bar proposing Normandy ciders and pommels.

50 meters from the hotel, a shaded tennis court allows you to stay fit : relax and play sports in the hotel park (tennis gear not provided).

The climate of Normandy is favourable : « green » tourism at the Pavillon de Gouffern with a mini golf course not far from the hotel swimming pool.

30 km to the East of the charming hotel, on the waterway of the Orne, the artificial lake of Rabodanges has been created: enjoy extreme tourism with water-skiing and motorboat racing, on a 200-acre lake spanning several rural districts in Normandy.
The Pavillon de Gouffern is located at the heart of the stud-farm region of Normandy and 3 km from the Haras du Pin which houses the National Stud-farms organization: tour on horseback in the forest accompanied by a qualified riding instructor or learn about harnessing with carriages drawn by 2 or 4 horses. For pleasure-tourism, visit the “Haras du Pin” stables, 3 km from the hotel, by calash.

This charming hotel and it’s park are set in the heart of the Petite Gouffern forest: tourism on foot with a trail designed at Silly in Gouffern, to discover a Normandy of legends, with menhirs, mediaeval architecture and buried treasures. Take a stroll in the Pays d’Auge and Merlerault around the hotel with two waymarked paths “the Payx d’Exmes and the Haras du Pin” and “Gacé en Pays d’Auge”. Finally, long-distance hiking along the GR26 which crosses the Pays d’Auge Ornais, offering exceptional viewpoints.

Normandy is a region which celebrates the Art of gastronomy : local produce and sea-food offer an extremely varied, excellent cuisine. Wine-tasting with visits to local producers of cider, pommel and perry. Gastronomic tourism with a trip to Camembert, 20 km from the hotel, where the recipe for the cheese that is Normandy’s emblem was devised.
30 km from the hotel, the town of Carrouges toasts gastronomy with the « Salon de la Gourmandise et des objets de Normandie-Maine »: Gourmet tourism from June through September and Connaisseur tourism, with the “Salon de l’Artisanat”, from October through December in the chateau de Carrouges.

Vimoutiers, 25 km North of the hotel, is worth the visit with it’s « folies augeronnes » : gastronomic Normandy tourism , throughout the Summer on the market square, discover local produce and chat with the producers.
